How To Follow Your Passion
How can you follow your passion? The simplest way is to start following it.
In my experience, when there is a desire to do something, two things happen:
- The thought occurs “I want to do something”
- The next thought typically is “But I can’t do that because of ‘X’ reasons”
My advice? Even though the path forward is unclear, and you think you have reasons why you can’t do it, do it anyways.
Consider the quote below:
“Writing a novel is like driving a car at night. You can only see as far as the headlights but you can make the whole trip that way.”
The headlights on a car don’t shine the entire way to your destination. But the drive, mile-by-mile, illuminates just enough of the road so the journey can be made safely in small increments.
There will be wrong turns. There might be dead ends.
But even one, small step is one step more than you would have taken if you decided to stand on the front porch all night, wondering how you’d get there.
